2009 ACC Football Recruiting Rankings

By ACC Blitz on Friday, 6th February 2009

With National Signing Day over, the rankings are officially in from Rivals and Scouts. Unlike 2008, when the ACC had two of the strongest classes in Clemson and Miami, 2009 the conference barely squeezed in 4 Top 25 classes from Rivals and only 3 from Scouts.

Florida State, Miami and Virginia Tech had strong classes as usual, and North Carolina continued it’s recent mega-successful recruiting run under Davis, finishing with a Top 10 class. Boston College took a big slide from last year, most likely from the major coaching shake-ups. Clemson *seemed* to have suffered the same fate, but Tiger Nation shouldn’t get worked up just yet.

Their low ranking is due in part to a low number of signees (12), which is on par considering they only had 15 to give in 2009. The Tigers average star rating per player is doing just fine, coming in at 7th in the nation.

The surprises of this years recruiting classes have to be Maryland and Duke. The Terps landed two stud RB’s and are stacked on the defensive side of the ball and ended up just outside the Top 25 with both services, while the Blue Devils reeled in a big-time playmaker in RB Desmond Scott, keeping his interest above some of the big boys in the south.

I’m kind of surprised at how low VT was ranked on SCOUTS. I kind of thought UNC would receive some good recruits with everything they have going for them right now. It’s always good for *us, FSU, to get some good defensive players to replace those leaving this year or just to pad the cushion in case anyone happens to become injured throughout the season. Just like they say in the Marines, always have a plan to kill everyone you meet. Always have a backup plan for when your first one fails on you.
