Around the ACC
(2.21.09) For an off-week in college football, there were a lot of interesting happenings in the conference this week. Starting with what should end up being one of the best OOC games of ’09 when TCU visits Clemson, plus staff movements around the league. The big movers were around the coaching staffs at Virginia, with the Cavs re-hiring offensive coordinator Ron Prince as their new special teams coach, and at Florida State with M.Andrews and C.Amato resigning their contracts. Tar Heel and Hurricane fans didn’t fare well with their respective news, with UNC coach Butch Davis dismissing 3 players, and Miami all but saying no to Bryce Brown signing with them.
STORYLINES
- 2/20 – Circle September 26th. It just got good. Real good. Clemson finalized a match-up with TCU, replacing Central Michigan on the schedule. Newly appointed head man Dabo Swinney will have his work cut out for him. The Horned Frogs finished 7th in both polls in ’08, and have one of the most smothering defenses in the country. Not to mention it’s sandwiched in between two muy importante conference games.
- 2/20 – Things took a turn for the better for the Cavalier coaching staff with the news of Ron Prince returning to coach special teams. The former Kansas State Head Coach spent 5 years on staff under Al Groh from 2001-2005, serving as the offensive line coach, followed by a move to offensive coordinator.
- 2/19 – Butch Davis cleared up a few scholarship spots this week, dismissing 3 players from the team for violating team rules.
- 2/19 – Class of ’10 WR Tai-ler Jones is one hot commodity. Sitting on 25 scholarship offers, he is already on the board for 5 ACC Schools- Clemson, Miami, GT, UNC, WF.
- 2/18 – Hurricanes Coach Randy Shannon and UM appear to be fed up with the Bryce Brown circus act. Earlier this week, it was rumored that Miami may be pulling their offer to the playmaker. And rumor now has it that Brown plans on making his last visit to the ‘U’, but does Miami even want him there?
- 2/17 – First Papa Bowden, now M.Andrews and C.Amato have resigned their respectie contracts for the Seminoles. Great news for a team that looks poised to make a run at the ACC Title in ’09.
